Queensryche - July 29, 2011 - Irving Plaza, NYC, NY
« on: July 29, 2011, 06:14:01 PM »

Capacity - ShadowWalker reports Irving Plaza is at around 85 percent full. The max capacity according to Wikipedia is approximately 1,200 people.  So roughly 1,000 are at the show. Samsara note: I've been to Irving Plaza two or three times, it never seemed like more than a 800 person place, but that was 10 years ago.

Set list:

Get Started
Damaged
I Don't Believe in Love
Hit the Black
The Hands
A Dead Man's Words
At 30,000 Ft.
Rhythm of Hope
Real World
NM 156 (w/ FULL SOLO, according to ShadowWalker!!! If true, that is the first time since 1989 unless they did it this summer in Europe!  Note - he said he thinks so, needs to go back and listen to make sure.)
Screaming in Digital
The Lady Wore Black (re-arranged to eliminate the first chorus, SW says it sounds "rushed")
Walk in the Shadows (SW reports that no high note was done coming out of solo)
The Right Side of My Mind
Around the World
Silent Lucidity
*encore break*
Jet City Woman
Empire
Eyes of a Stranger (w/Anarchy-X reprise, aka "Anarchy-Xtra")

END

Notes: Jason Ames is onstage (backing vocals/third guitar). SW says that Scott's kit looks awesome. "Best since Mindcrime." Says "Tate sounds decent, band is tight."

Obviously, not a fan of "Get Started," but otherwise, so far, so good. No surprises though...

"Get Started" sticks out like a sore thumb among all those other songs, which are among my favourites. Hit The Black sounded great live on Live Evolution - I'd be curious to see how they pull it off this time.

Bit dubious about the "third guitar" bit - do they really need one?

Thanks for the updates!

Yeah, Get Started is absolutely the song that doesn't fit there.

BTW -- vocally, this set is all softballs...and Ames is there to prop Tate if anything needs a high part.

The really F'in sad thing about this is...had they just dropped Get Started, it's a fantastic (if predictable) set list.

I wonder if there are any visuals?  Or is it the black screen with the tri-ryche on it?

Great setlist to date!

I may change my mind about going to see them after all..... ::)

Tore Ostby's great guitarist and a genious. Take a look at Conception (1991-98) w. Roy Khan and Ark (1989-1991) w. Jorn Lande. Real good metalprogressive!!!!

True, it's a very good selection of songs from all eras of the band.

We've got the early stuff (NM156, Screaming in Digital), the Mindcrime material (I Don't Believe In Love), and good material from the later releases. Bit surprised not to see any Empire stuff there, but maybe they want to ease off it a bit after the American Soldier tour.

And, that ended. Around the World would have me running to take a piss. Awful. These new songs don't at all fit in with the rest of the catalog.

Rhythm of Hope and Real World are perfect side by side, would've loved to have heard these songs...back in 94.
Too bad RoH wasn't created at that time lol

Other than the "Get Suckin'," this set list was enjoyable through Right Side. After that, complete snoozefest. I realize that given the marketing, they know they need to do SL, JCW, Empire, etc. And I like those songs, obviously. Just tired of them.

Had Get Suckin' been Anarchy-X/Revolution Calling and Around Your Ass been Anybody Listening? or better yet, PROMISED LAND, this show would have been good. Real good.

Good if his vocals were intact.
I was listening to NM 156 live from last week and must say its not so horrible. It was listenable.

They had screens, just saw a few clips on youtuuuube, youtuuube.

"I don't believe in love"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNWtm7MrSOc

As usual Parker did a good job playing his part of the solo.

"Jet city woman"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmc3RG9c0do

Sound quality isn't the greatest.

Looks like a pretty standrad and "safe" setlist too me. How long did they play? 100 min?

First off, hats off to our fearless leader for taking my texts and relaying some of the information I was sending. Thanks!

In my slightly hung-over state, here are a few morning after reflections:

The mix was not that good, and considering I was right next to the soundboard, it should have sounded much better from a mix perspective. Some mic issues here and there (Tate actually called out Gray at one point late in the show complaining about his microphone).

I thought Tate sounded good. As Samsara said, it was a set of softballs that really didn't challenge Tate vocally.

Some one asked about length - roughly 110 minutes.

I will do a more formal review tomorrow...

Pretty nice setlist, although Get Started would be a huge downer for me at the beginning. And forget Around the World, I think there are more tolerable songs on DTC that could have been used. I don't really care for the album but especially if that's the 2 songs they are promoting from it.

Playing near here tomorrow night, but I won't be there. I will miss hearing some of that set though.
