Operation: Mindcrime II is a very different record for Queensr˙che. For starters, the majority of the album wasn't written by the band. Producer Jason Slater, along with Geoff Tate and Mike Stone, composed most of Operation: Mindcrime II, with the rest of the band contributing only in a minor fashion. In addition, unlike its predecessor, the Mindcrime sequel is more akin to a hard rock Broadway production, than a heavy metal concept record. Debuting at #14 on the Billboard charts, Operation: Mindcrime II was received with mixed reviews from fans, despite a strong start on the charts. Its support tour was very well attended and received much press from VH-1 Classic and local news outlets. The record features numerous spots of vocalist Pamela Moore, reprising her role (albeit as the conscience of the lead character, Nikki, as Sister Mary is long since dead) and a guest performance from vocal legend Ronnie James Dio. Singles from the record included "I'm American," "The Hands" and "The Chase," although none received much airplay on regular radio. |
