Friday Music Re-issuing Empire on Colored Vinyl for 30th Anniversary
By Brian Heaton
News on Capitol Records' plans for a 30th Anniversary edition of Queensryche's Empire has been non-existent for almost a year, ever since Geoff Tate revealed the project was set for release in the first quarter of 2020 and would feature “a lot of bonus content, live tracks and liners.”
The COVID-19 pandemic likely has something to do with the new Empire box set's delay. But for those Queensryche fans who can't wait, Friday Music is re-issuing the album on limited edition colored vinyl on October 30, 2020.
According to Amazon.com, the new double-LP 30th Anniversary version of Empire will be available in translucent green or translucent red 180-gram vinyl, featuring a gatefold cover. At the time of this writing, Friday Music's website did not have any details on the colored vinyl pressings.
For fellow collectors, keep in mind these new re-issues are likely just Friday Music's 2018 version of Empire, repackaged in colors for the 30th Anniversary. Read AnybodyListening.net's review of that pressing for more information.
Reading the tea leaves, if Friday Music has retained the rights for the 30th Anniversary vinyl of Empire, it's likely Capitol Records will not release its own vinyl version of the album. Fans should expect the forthcoming box set will be on CDs and if we're lucky, some sort of additional video component on DVD or Blu-ray.
