Geoff Tate Appears on New Single from The Prog Collective
By Brian Heaton
Original Queensryche vocalist Geoff Tate goes back to his progressive rock roots on “Two Trajectories,” the first single from Worlds on Hold, the new album from prog rock supergroup The Prog Collective.
The iconic frontman provides lead vocals on the track, showcasing his range and depth over the song's six-and-a-half-minute runtime. Guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal also appears on the cut—the duo providing a powerhouse union of vocal and guitar mastery.
“It was an honor and a pleasure to work with Geoff Tate on the song,” said project mastermind and Yes member Billy Sherwood. “He brought so much emotion and character to the vocal. I'm looking forward to people hearing this track along with all the others on the new Prog Collective record!”
“Yes was one of my earliest influences and working with Billy was very special to me,” added Tate. “I loved singing the track 'Two Trajectories.'”
Due on February 5, Worlds on Hold is The Prog Collective's first album since 2013's Epilogue. The new album is split in half—one side devoted to new compositions, the other featuring versions of classic prog songs. The tunes covered include Peter Gabriel's “Solsbury Hill,” Alan Parson's Project's “Eye in The Sky,” Procol Harem's “A Whiter Shade of Pale” and The Moody Blues' “Nights In White Satin.”
Among the guests appearing on the album are Todd Rundgren, Derek Sherinian, Jan Akkerman, Steve Hackett, Steve Hillage, Patrick Moraz, Sonja Kristina, Joe Lynn Turner, L. Shankar, Arjen Anthony Lucassen, Roine Stolt, Graham Bonnet, and David Johansen.
The Prog Collective's Worlds on Hold can be purchased as a CD and a deluxe 2 LP gatefold vinyl edition.
